External Volunteers at AHU Policy
Individuals who are 18 years of age or older and who have an interest in volunteering at AHU. This excludes individuals who need court-ordered service. This scope includes AHU employees who need additional assistance with tasks in their departments.
To provide guidance and process for individuals within the community who wish to volunteer at AHU and for AHU departments in need of volunteer assistance.
To provide volunteer opportunities to individuals in the community eager to serve at AHU.
Process:
- AHU departments will complete the Request for Volunteer form and return it to the Director of Community Engagement within five (5) business days.
- The Director of Community Engagement informs Advent Health Volunteer Services (AHVS) of the specific type of volunteer requested. AHVS will submit applicants who are interested in similar volunteer opportunities to the Director of Community Engagement within three (3) to five (5) business days.
- The Director of Community Engagement will review the applicants to ensure candidates match with requested skill set and will forward a summary of applicants to department requesting volunteer within five (5) business days.
- The department requesting the volunteer will inform the Director of Community Engagement of applicants of interest and the Director of Community Engagement will reach out to selected applicants and ask them to contact AHVS to complete the volunteer orientation and onboarding.
- Once the volunteer has completed the AHVS onboarding and orientation, AHVS contacts the Director of Community Engagement with the completion notice and/or OPID, if applicable. The Director ofCommunity Engagement contacts the appropriate sources to request the specific access the volunteer may need.
- The volunteer meets with the Director of Community Engagement on their first day of volunteer assignment for brief introduction/orientation to AHU. The Director of Community Engagement will then connect the volunteer to their assigned department.
- If the volunteer project has a set end date and the volunteer does not wish to serve in other departments, the volunteer will meet with the Director of Community Engagement for review of assignment. If the volunteer needs to also meet with AHVS, they will be directed there by the Director of Community Engagement.
A volunteer at AHU is an individual outside of AHU who wishes to give their time in service. This excludes individuals who have court-ordered service, and anyone under the age of 18. Relatives of AHU employees who are 18 years of age or older and do not have a court-ordered service requirement may volunteer at AHU but not within the same department in which their relative is employed.
