Policy #:
COE 1100.001
Executive Owner:
Director of Community Engagement
Scope:

This policy is intended to provide an opportunity for external students to provide assistance to AHU and in turn the University provides a practical learning environment for the intern.

Purpose:

To provide guidance and process for students outside ADU who wish to complete their internship requirements at AHU.

Policy:

To provide opportunities for students from colleges and universities other than AHU to complete internship requirements as part of their academic programs; to provide AHU with cost-effective assistance and the opportunity to aid in a student’s educational development.

Process

The following process applies to External Interns at AHU:

  1. ADU departments are required to access the AHU Department Intern Request Form, complete the form and return it to the Director of Community Engagement within five (5) business days.
  2. The Director of Community Engagement informs AdventHealth Orlando Volunteer Services (AHVS) of the specific type of intern requested within five (5) business days.  AHVS will look at the schools in which they have existing Affiliation Agreements and will send resumes of students with desired skill sets to the Director of Community Engagement within three-to-five (3-5) business days.
  3. The Director of Community Engagement will review the resumes to ensure candidates match with requested skill set and will forward resumes to department requesting intern within five (5) business days.
  4. The department requesting the intern will inform the Director of Community Engagement of those they wish to interview and some available dates/times they have for interviews.
  5. The Director of Community Engagement will contact the candidates and arrange interviews with the department.
  6. Candidates arrive at AHU Welcome Center and give the name of their interviewer or department contact.
  7. Following the completion of the interview process, the department requesting the intern will inform the Director of Community Engagement of the candidate in which they wish to offer the internship and the Director of Community Engagement contacts the candidate to inform them of the offer.
  8. If the candidate accepts, the Director of Community Engagement informs the candidate that they must contact AHVS and do onboarding/orientation with AHVS.  Contact information is given to the candidate. If the candidate declines the offer, the Director of Community Engagement contacts the department and asks for other candidates they may wish to pursue.
  9. Once the intern has completed the AHVS onboarding and orientation, AHVS contacts the Director of Community Engagement with the OPID of the intern.  The Director of Community Engagement contacts the appropriate sources to request the specific access the intern may need.
  10. The intern meets with the Director of Community Engagement on their first day of internship to go over a brief orientation to AHU.  The Director of Community Engagement will then connect the intern to their department.
  11. At the conclusion of the internship, the Director of Community Engagement will conduct a brief exit interview and survey of the internship experience.
