Policy #:
HRC 501.008
Executive Owner:
Chief Compliance Officer
Scope:

University-wide policy for faculty/adjunct employees enrolled as AHU students.

Purpose:

Ensure appropriate decision-making for faculty/adjunct enrollment in academic programs at AHU.

Policy:

Any faculty/adjunct employee seeking to be admitted to an AHU academic program cannot matriculate to the program that they are significantly associated with, due to the potential conflicts of interest.  Faculty/adjunct seeking higher education degrees should pursue degrees outside of the programs in which they serve as faculty.  The faculty/adjunct employee should inform his/her department chair of his/her intention to pursue a degree.

If a faculty/adjunct employee matriculates at AHU, they must adhere to all confidentiality standards and neither access nor share other student information that may be accessible to them as an employee.

Definition(s):

Significant association:  If the faculty/adjunct employee has any of the following associations, they are disqualified from admission to that program.

  1. Teach in the program
  2. Serve on committees within the department associated with the program
  3. Serve with the instructors as a fellow faculty member within the same department
  4. Employee is in the downline of a program instructor or supervises an instructor.
  5. Employee has served as teaching faculty within the program within the past year.
