Executive Owner:
Senior Vice President for Student Affairs & Health and Biomedical Sciences
Scope:
The scope of this policy encompasses academic leaders, faculty and students.
Purpose:
The purpose of this policy is to explain the circumstances when a course section may be canceled.
Policy:
This policy provides guidance on the cancellation of a course section(s). A course section may be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to, an enrollment of less than six students. Course sections that are canceled due to low enrollment numbers may be combined with another section. Every effort will be made to cancel a section well in advance of the intended start date allowing students to reschedule or make other arrangements. (Preferably two weeks prior to the start of the term.)
Before a course section is canceled AHU will:
- Have the Academic Department or another appropriate department contact the student letting them know the course needs to be canceled
- Identify an alternative section(s) or course(s)
- Direct the student to see the appropriate office regarding potential financial and visa status repercussions
- Evaluate the affect on the student's projected graduation date
- Make every effort to hold scheduled courses in a given trimester
