Tuition Benefits at AHU for Employees and Family Members Policy

Scope: 

This policy is for all full-time employees.

Purpose: 

To establish the tuition and fee benefits for all AHU employees and their immediate family members enrolled in AHU academic programs.

Policy: 

The Tuition and Fee Benefits Policy grants assistance to full-time employees and their family members who enroll at AHU.

Undergraduate Programs – Employees

  • Full-time employees are eligible for free undergraduate tuition and fees, either on campus or online.  Approval must be from their Department Chair, Director, or Immediate supervisor.
  • A maximum of four hours may be taken during the workday.
  • Hourly employees must clock out while in class.
  • Before enrolling in a course, the employee must have the permission of his/her Department Chair, Director, or immediate supervisor and submit a completed "Tuition Benefit" form each trimester to Human Resources.
  • Full-time employees who have not already earned a baccalaureate degree must complete a FAFSA and the AHU Aid Application to determine eligibility for grants.  All grants will be applied before tuition and fee benefits are applied.
  • Books and elective fees are the responsibility of the employee.

Undergraduate Programs – Immediate Family Members

  • Family Members of full-time employees are eligible for free undergraduate tuition and fees, either on campus or online.  If the immediate family member is also a full-time employee, the approval must come from their Department Chair, Director, or immediate supervisor.
  • Before enrolling in a course, the Family Member must submit a completed "Tuition Benefit" form each trimester to the Human Resources.
  • Immediate family members who have not already earned a baccalaureate degree must complete a FAFSA and the AHU Aid Application to determine eligibility for grants. All grants will be applied before tuition and fee benefits are applied.
  • Books and elective fees are the responsibility of the employee.

MHA (Campus and Online ) Graduate Program – Employees

  • Employees who want to enroll in the AHU Master of Health Care Administration (MHA) campus or online program need to submit the Advanced Academic Study Application with their Department Chair, Director, or immediate supervisor's signature to the Provost.
  • If approved, employees are eligible for free graduate tuition and fees.
  • Employees enrolled in other graduate programs are not eligible for tuition and matriculation fee benefits.
  • A maximum of four hours may be taken during the workday.
  • Hourly employees must clock out while in class.
  • Before enrolling in a MHA course the employee must submit a completed "Tuition Benefit" form each trimester to the Human Resources Office.

MHA/MBA Graduate Program - Employees

  • Employees who want to enroll in the MHA/MBA Graduate program need to submit the Advanced Academic Study Application with their Department Chair, Director, or immediate supervisor's signature to the Provost.
  • If approved, employees are eligible for free graduate tuition and fees for the MHA portion of the dual degree.
  • A maximum of four hours may be taken during the workday.
  • Hourly employees must clock out while in class.
  • Before enrolling in a MHA course the employee must submit a completed "Tuition Benefit" form each trimester to the Human Resources Office.

Amortization Schedule

  • Repayment of the loan is the responsibility of the employee. He or she agrees to immediately repay AHU if:
    • The degree is not completed in the agreed upon time frame.
    • The employee ceases full-time employment at AHU.
    • The employee is terminated from employment at AHU.
  • The request will be approved or denied by the President’s Council.
  • If approved, the Advanced Academic Study Loan Agreement form needs to be completed.
  • Employees must complete the appropriate "Tuition Benefit" form and obtain the necessary approvals as outlined above no later than the first day of classes in the trimester for which the benefits are requested.

Procedure

  • Employees requesting tuition and fee benefit for the MHA or the EMHA program must complete the Advanced Academic Student Application.
  • The request will be approved or denied by the President’s Council.
  • If approved, the Advanced Academic Study Loan Agreement form needs to be completed.
  • Employees must complete the appropriate "Tuition Benefit" form and obtain the necessary approvals as outlined above no later than the first day of classes in the trimester for which the benefits are requested
Definition(s): 
  • Full-Time Employees – Are employees who work in a full-time benefit eligibility position.
  • Family Members - immediate family members (spouse and children) as defined in the AHU HR Employee Manual of full-time employees.
  • Eligibility for tuition and fee benefits do not guarantee acceptance to the University or Program.  Employees must apply and be accepted to the University and to the program of his/her choice.
