Scope: 
The scope is to outline the process for a positive toxicology screen on initial admission to a professional program at AdventHealth University (AHU).
Purpose: 
The purpose is to follow the same guidelines for all students with a positive toxicology result.
Procedures: 

Procedure for a Positive Toxicology result (only on initial admission to a professional program):

  • Review the result. 
  • Identify the substance. 
  • Department Personnel will review/investigate/interview student. 
  • Have a discussion with the student about the reason for taking substance - is it a prescription? Are there other circumstances?
  • If the student is taking a prescription, how would this prescription medication determine your ability to perform your duties in healthcare? 
  • Does this result affect licensing requirements for the student's program?
  • Does this result affect contracts with clinical partners?
  • Once review is completed, please reach out to Dean of Students and Compliance Officer to discuss findings. 
  • Once the initial meeting is completed with department, Dean of Students, and Compliance Officer, the Compliance Officer or Dean of Students will schedule a meeting with the student to discuss process and remediations.
  • Dean of Students will send the student a letter and additional remediations. 
  • Student must complete the remediations outlined in the letter and report to their department. Department will follow up with additional remediations on future drug screenings.
