Professional Association and Certification/Licensing Policy

The purpose of this policy is to outline the policy for employee participation in professional associations and certifications/licensing and the procedure for obtaining reimbursement for expenses for approved professional activity.

  • Employees are encouraged to actively participate in professional associations and acquiring/renewing certifications/licensing.
  • Department budgets may provide funding for professional activity based on the departmental budget.

General Guidelines

  • Prior to participating in professional associations and acquiring/renewing certifications/licenses, the employee must get approval from their department heads to receive reimbursement
  • For travel to professional associations or conferences the employee must submit a travel authorization form detailing all estimated expenses to their department heads prior to the event for approval.
  • Employees must submit an expense report with supporting documentation after the approved event to receive reimbursement.
